Meet Your Team

Sonya Pennel

My name is Sonya Pennel, and I co-own Burn Boot Camp La Crosse with my husband of 23 years, Dean. Together we have three children, Davey (21), Ali (20) and Matthew (13). Since starting our family in the early 90’s, I found through the years that I became less healthy. Not only from a weight and physical fitness perspective, but also from a mental perspective. As my weight climbed, I found I became angry and short with most everyone including my husband, my children, my employees and most anyone who I came in contact with. I ballooned to 212 LBS. I was tired all of the time and although I knew I was a great person, I hated who I was. What had happened? It took some time to unravel it all. The start back to a healthy lifestyle came, not surprisingly, at an annual visit with my doctor when I found out my blood pressure was borderline high and if I didn’t get it under control myself, she was going to recommend daily medication. This doctor visit was the gentle start that I needed to reclaim my life by making a conscious decision to change the way I was eating. At that time, I was of the mindset that I would do one or the other, but not both eat right and exercise (wow I had a lot to learn!). The weight came off quickly and before long, I found I wanted to exercise. The three mile walks to and from work were just the beginning. Between the weight loss and the exercise, I felt the best I had felt since high school; and people noticed! I could feel that I was walking taller, with my head up, and a smile on my face! I was more approachable. And then came Burn Boot Camp. While I never personally was able to experience a Burn Boot Camp workout, my daughter who lives in Charlotte, North Carolina started working out there. She brought this opportunity home during a break from college and our whole family knew immediately that this was the right venture to bring to Wisconsin! I have so much to learn and a ways to go in my personal journey, but the Burn Boot Camp concept is exactly what our community needs!

jeffprofessionalpicMy name is Jeff Winkers and I am the Head Trainer at Burn Boot Camp La Crosse! I grew up on a family farm in Fennimore, WI so the importance of hard work and taking pride in what I do was instilled in me at a very young age. I was active throughout high school, participating in football, wrestling, and track & field. I moved to La Crosse, WI in 2010 to attend the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. I continued to be active in college, joining the UW-La Crosse Rugby team. I was a starter all three years that I played and earned rookie of the year honors! I have been in the fitness industry since my sophomore year of college. Before graduation, I completed my internship at NX Level Sports Performance in Waukesha, WI where I trained athletes of all levels, from high schoolers to professionals like J.J. Watt and Anthony Pettis. In the summer of 2015, I earned my B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science with a Nutrition minor. My experience thus far in life has created the foundation that I set my health & wellness philosophy on. I have a genuine interest in helping others become healthier and happier! I value finishing everything that I start with 100% effort and I expect nothing but the best from myself! The Burn Boot Camp philosophy aligns perfectly with my own and is why I know this is where I belong! I look forward to working with each and every one of you! Together we will reach your goals!

“You must do the things you think you cannot do!” – Eleanor Roosevelt

My name is Lorie and I am a trainer at Burn Boot Camp La Crosse. I also am a charter member of Burn Boot Camp. Before Burn Boot Camp, I had been working out regularly, but this was a new experience. It was the whole package – exercise, nutrition, and a real community! I quickly fell in love with Burn! This experience catapulted me forward. Six months after joining, I became a NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer and became a Burn Boot Camp certified trainer.

Improving who we are, both physically and mentally, takes dedication and hard work. I am excited to work with you on your journey. Anything is possible when you believe in yourself!
