The Next Big Thing in Strong: Female Fitness Entrepreneurs

Katie Landino & Christina Cocita

They train. They dance. They laugh. They nurture. They mother. They lead.

They also fail. They heal. They impact. Then they do it all over again.

Insert: women. They are powerful beyond measure. We’re celebrating them today, and every day, by showcasing two of our female Franchise Partners. Meet Katie Landino & Christina Cocita; Franchise Partners behind the force to be reckoned with that is Burn Boot Camp Gainesville, Georgia!

Here’s what they had to say on what it means to them to be a woman:

Why Burn Boot Camp?

I fell in love with the vision and mission. I knew one day I wanted Burn to be a bigger part of my life than just being a member. This opportunity has truly changed my life and has provided me so much growth, both personally and professionally.” -Katie Landino

How has it impacted your family?

My family bleeds blue. 2 out of 3 of our children took their first steps in a Burn. It has allowed us financial freedom. Burn has truly been a place where my family has built community and long-lasting friendships. Honestly, Burn has brought my family closer than ever.” -Christina Cocita

“My family is my biggest fan. My husband and I are very real with our kids and they knew going into this part of our lives that it would be challenging and there would be some sacrifices. I see it in my kids’ faces when they ask “ are we going to our gym today?”; how proud they are to be a part of Burn, their mommy, and the work ethic that goes along with chasing your dreams.” -Katie

What does it mean to be a strong woman?

Being a strong woman is more than just a physical thing for me. It’s being able to be confident in the success or the mess. It’s the ability to get 1% better every day. A strong woman builds others up. She sees the best in herself and others. She walks through her day with her chin lifted high and her shoulders rolled back.” -Christina

A strong woman is a confident individual that knows their worth. Being strong is not just physical, but being strong in your beliefs and truth as well. A strong woman will take failure and turn it into success by using what she learned, in all aspects of her life.” -Katie

What makes you proud to be a woman?

My family, my faith, and my career in empowering every individual with who I cross paths.” -Christina

Always first: MY FAMILY. I am proud to be a woman because when a woman puts her mind to something she will do whatever it takes to get it done, and done well! The amount of good and bad that women can handle is unbelievable and that makes me proud to know whatever is thrown at me, I GOT THIS. Lastly, the amount of empowerment we get now,as women- I mean, it is incredible!” -Katie

What makes you feel empowered as a woman? Why is Burn a place where women can feel empowered, confident, and strong?

I feel empowered when I can truly believe in myself. No matter how big or small, believing I can do it empowers me. Burn is a place where women can feel empowered, confident, and strong. It’s a place where you are encouraged to be the best you. You can walk in the door after a crazy morning with the kids and instantly be lifted by your community. Even when you’re not feeling your best, the trainers believe in you and will challenge you to perform your best. You can’t find this type of tribe anywhere else.” -Christina

Being able to be me makes me feel empowered. There is no better power you hold than putting yourself in an environment where you can be 100% YOU! That is what I feel Burn provides for women. A safe space for us to be ourselves and show ourselves how strong and badass we really are! Confidence is always something that will follow suit! Burn pushes you out of your comfort zone, and that builds confidence and character which will, in turn, inspire others around you…the whole point of Burn Boot Camp :)” -Katie

Growing up, did society lead you to believe that women had a “place” or only belonged in certain rooms, at certain tables? How has your understanding of what it means to be a woman changed through the years?

Growing up I was raised by a single mom who was in the military. She installed strength in me despite what society wanted me to believe.  All I ever wanted to do is be as strong as her physically, spiritually, and mentally. BURN has allowed me to BE THIS and LIVE THIS!” -Christina

To be honest, I was never in a position where I was witness to this type of behavior. My parents were divorced when I was 6 and my mom was a SAHM prior to the divorce. After the divorce, she worked 2 jobs and went to school and I never saw her complain once ( even though I know she had plenty of breakdown moments,…because she told me later in life). My Dad always encouraged her to be an independent individual, so I grew up with a strong woman influenced by a supportive man behind her.” -Katie

What women inspire you and why?

Women who turn their mess into their message!” -Christina

Women who aren’t afraid to show the world who she is and what she believes in. My mother is one of them. She never falters on who she is but will always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. My business partner, Christina, also inspires me. She has qualities that I don’t possess and it makes me want to be and do better personally and professionally. She takes things with grace and has so much more patience than I do when it comes to certain things. Love ya Boo!” -Katie

Can women have it all? The family, the successful career, strong body, etc.? How is Burn empowering women to have it all and be dynamic individuals who don’t have to fit into a box?

Women can definitely have it all. It’s not easy but it’s absolutely possible. Burn empowers women to step boldness. No day looks the same. It’s a space you can be creative, pour into your team and develop an unbreaking community. “ -Christina

ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!! Burn has a special way of providing ( in a unique way) the necessary tools for one to “ have it all”. These tools include a supportive community, which ( in my mind) is a necessity for a woman to thrive personally and professionally, another one is the trainers are able to push you out of your comfort zone which builds character and lets you find a part of yourself you may not know existed. Providing childwatch so women can get a clear headspace to be creative and vulnerable for 45 minutes is priceless.” -Katie

What kind of woman are you trying to raise in your daughter? What kinds of things do you want her to believe about herself as she grows into a woman?

It’s important for my 3 boys to see their mom doing something she loves. I want them to see their mom helping to transform lives. Burn is allowing me to create a legacy for my kids and my grandkids.” -Christina

“I struggle HARD with my daughter. She is 10 going on 30. I wish there was a handbook for a Woman raising another woman, but I really just need to show her by example what type of woman is going to grow up to be inspiring, powerful, and all the things! I want her to know she is the most precious person and to always make sure she is taking care of herself first. I want her to exude confidence and be able to be vulnerable at the same time. I want her to be open to new things and show compassion and integrity.“ -Katie

What is one thing you want women in Burn Nation to know about themselves? What is one thing you want these women to know about Burn?

I want every woman to know they are ENOUGH and their Burn Community cares. No matter where they are in their story, they are inspiring someone. Burn is a place that will turn your fears into your victories.” -Christina

You are inspiring someone you may not realize. Always be true to yourself and know you are stronger than you think. Burn is a community of women just like you, and we will celebrate your accomplishments, and help you conquer your fears.” -Katie

What legacy do you want to leave behind for women?

The legacy I want to leave behind for women is empowerment. When women come together and elevate one another, there is NOTHING that can stop them.” -Christina

I want women to know there is NOTHING they CAN’T do. No matter what anyone tells you or does to you, we wear many hats as women, you just have to pick the right one for each situation. BE THE WOMAN YOU ENVISIONED AS A LITTLE GIRL.” -Katie
