Life is crazy—we often feel stressed and are always running from one thing to the next. Our immune system weakens when we live a stressed-out, on-the-go lifestyle, leading us to feel run-down and become much more prone to sickness.

To keep up with our hectic lifestyles, taking care of our immune system is essential and not something we should wait to strengthen once we are sick. Enter our immune-boosting superfood smoothie! Use this smoothie to help ward off sickness, overcome allergy, cold and flu symptoms and boost your energy in your everyday life.

This immune-boosting green smoothie contains elderberry syrup, which has been shown to help fight flu symptoms and reduce the duration of your cold. It also contains high amounts of vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, iron, vitamin B6, antioxidants and beta-carotene, which help strengthen your immune system.

Taking a tablespoon of elderberry syrup at night before bed has shown to be a great replacement for cough syrup—and it’s much tastier. Elderberry syrup is also a great supplement to take if you are prone to getting sick when traveling. Start supplementing with elderberry 10 days prior to any travel and continue to supplement during your trip to help you stay healthy. Taking elderberry syrup when you begin to feel run-down is surefire way to boost your immune system.

Goji berry powder is another powerful supplement in this smoothie. Goji berries contain 500 times more vitamin C per ounce than oranges! Due to their high amounts of vitamin C and vitamin A, goji berries build up your immune system and help ward off common colds and other illnesses. They also contain zinc, which has been shown to ward off colds and shorten their lifespan. Other benefits of regular supplementation of goji berries include increased quality of sleep, concentration, calmness, mood and energy levels and overall vitality.

This superfood smoothie also contains spirulina, a blue-green algae considered to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. It’s an amazing source of B vitamins, especially B12, and antioxidants, all essential for a healthy immune system.

Spirulina has antiviral properties and is most commonly known for its ability to rid the body of pollutants and other toxins you are exposed to on a daily basis, helping to ward off sickness. Supplementing with spirulina can take the place of your daily multivitamin due to its wide range of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It also improves your overall vitality and energy levels.

Finally, this immune-boosting superfood smoothie contains propolis, a bee product which has been used as a “cure-all” supplement for thousands of years by cultures all over the world. Propolis is anti-bacterial, killing off the bad bacteria that cause cold and flu symptoms, and one of the richest sources of bioflavonoids, which are known to treat allergies and kill viruses. Taking propolis regularly will not only help alleviate allergies, but may also help you avoid them altogether.

Make this smoothie regularly to build and keep a strong, functioning immune system, shorten the lifespan of cold and flu symptoms, alleviate allergies and increase your overall energy and vitality!
