When the burger craving hits but you want to err on the healthy side, it seems that the stereotypical order is a turkey burger. But before you whip up the all-American mustard, ketchup and pickles rendition, I want to throw a little twist your way.
This Teriyaki Turkey Burger is the ideal summer dinner dish that is packed with protein, perfect for meal prepping and sure to be an unforgettable menu item for any summer barbecue.
THE SECRET SAUCE
Oftentimes when you order teriyaki anything, the sauce is packed with sugar and preservatives. That is why I decided to make my own! My homemade teriyaki sauce has that sweet, garlicky flavor that we all crave—without the unhealthy processed ingredients. This sauce uses maple syrup, which contains zero refined sugars, and mixes in tamari sauce to give you that Asian fusion flavor. The avocado oil provides a fair serving of healthy fats, and the turkey burger itself will leave you feeling full and satisfied.
These Teriyaki Turkey Burgers are full of PROTEIN, VEGETABLES, FRUIT AND FIBER!
The showstopper that truly pulls this meal together is the pineapple cabbage slaw! This coleslaw combines the delicious taste of tangy pineapple with crispy, crunchy broccoli slaw. Before you serve up a side salad to increase your daily fiber intake, remember that the broccoli slaw contains over 8 grams of fiber in only one cup. This well-rounded meal meets all your dietary needs!
If pineapple isn’t your fruit of choice, you can swap it out for mango or even peaches, interchangeably.. Mix and match your ingredients to satisfy your taste buds! That’s the best thing about meal prepping—it can be whatever you want it to be.

Teriyaki Burger:
2 lbs. ground turkey
½ cup chopped scallions
2 tsp. ginger
4 cloves garlic, finely minced
¼ cup gluten-free tamari
1 tsp. salt
Teriyaki Sauce:
½ tbsp. brown mustard
¼ cup gluten-free tamari
2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
2 tsp. garlic powder
2 tsp. ginger powder
1 tbsp. pure maple syrup
Pineapple Cabbage Slaw:
2 cups broccoli slaw
1 cup chopped pineapple
1 tbsp. raw honey
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large bowl, combine all Teriyaki Burger ingredients. Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and grease with a non-stick spray or melted coconut oil. Shape the ground turkey mixture into burgers and place on prepared cookie sheet; makes 6 to 8 burgers. Allow to roast in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes. While burgers are roasting, combine all Teriyaki Sauce ingredients in a small bowl and stir until well combined. Set aside. In a separate small mixing bowl, add balsamic vinegar, tamari and raw honey. In a medium-size bowl, toss together broccoli slaw and chopped pineapple. Drizzle the combined wet slaw ingredients over top and continue to toss until evenly mixed. Remove burgers from the oven when ready, then place each on a bun and top with teriyaki sauce and pineapple cabbage slaw.
